We’re officially back to school and I have a 1st grader!
I was the one with the most first day jitters, but luckily it ended up being a smooth day overall. Gus and I met his teacher and toured his classroom yesterday, and we spent a lot of time biking around the blacktop and re-acclimating to campus. We reviewed his social story a few times, which describes the details of going back to school. I really loved these readiness tips from Big City Readers, and we took a few to heart, namely, take the obligatory First Day picture ahead of time. Game changer! We didn’t have to add that to our already down-to the-wire-morning!
I baked special first-day muffins, which Gus recommended we top with sprinkles (great call!)
The trickiest part of the day was (as expected) after school pick-up. I haven’t yet cracked the code on how to make that transition a smooth one. Last year he almost always resorted to throwing his glasses and backpack, and today was no different.
In the car he told me he wanted Daddy to pick up him, so I offered some ideas: Should I wear Daddy’s shirt to pick you up? His hat? Bring a protein bar? I will try them all!
(One more idea: I should write him a post-it note with the pick-up person’s name (usually me) so he can remind himself during the day.)
Overall it was a great day! We rounded it out with a lovely bike ride to get burgers and milkshakes! #sugarhigh
And tomorrow we’ll wake up and do it all over again…(minus the milkshakes ;)

Maybe next summer’s motto? No SUN instead of no fun.
Sockspiration: Waiting for these cute ribbed roll tops to come back in stock
In the meantime, researching how to wear them
Stripes make up a large part of my wardrobe so I’m intrigued by this challenge:
Can I pair this with stripes? If so, I’m in.
Ok this pairing might be my fall uniform: ballet flats (or NB sneakers) + striped tee + maxi skirt. (Thanks Liz!)
